Coquelicots = poppies and they grow wild in Provence. With shimmering red petals and a coal black center that wobbles on a thin stem, these little flowers can cheer up anyone’s day. In the village of Cotignac-Provence, we delight in dining at La Table des Coquelicots.
” Elle est sur la table” or that is on the table and we mean poppies as table decorations all year long. The chef knows what he is doing in the kitchen, too. We look on the menu for the regional, seasonal produce. We nominate it as our “maître de ” and look for the chef’s suggestions or highlighted items chalked on the ever changing menu board.
The chalk board presents the daily dessert specials today which include tarte citron, tropezienne, rhubarb and baba rhum. The message is loud and clear that dessert is the highlight of the tasting menu. Mr. B orders his “tropezienne” before the wine and everything else falls into the food heaven category!
When the weather is hot and sunny, it is our custom to order rose wine. Fortunately, it goes with all types of food! we wine and dine and watch the vases of coquelicots flutter in the breeze along with the restaurant’s red umbrellas. La Table des Coquelicots offers good eats and simple sips and is fast becoming a favorite in Cotignac!
